Matt and I have been to St. Augustine a bunch of times. We enjoyed many trips to the Mill Top Tavern and on one special trip even stayed in the Casa Monica: a refurbished hotel built in the late 1880's, owned by Henry Flagler and situated on one of the most picturesque corners in St. Augustine.
For this trip though, we wanted to see the distance from Gainesville to St. Augustine, since we thought it would be a quick day trip that we could enjoy again often. When we saw the mapquest directions, we were sure there was a mistake. It couldn't actually take that long to get to a place that looks so close on map, could it? Actually, yes it could. But we enjoyed the trip, back roads through Palatka and Interlachen, even snapping this picture of Palatka's City Hall while we waited at the traffic light. And then tried to stay safe even though it rained cats and dogs on the way home.
For this trip, Matt found a restaurant for us to try. He even found a new food website that I know we'll be using again in the future. Again, I'm not a seafood fan (very strange, since I was born and raised on the Gulf coast of Florida) but I throughly enjoyed the food at O'Steens. I love anything fried, so I was happy to enjoy chicken fingers, french fries, and hush puppies.
All in all, our trip to St. Augustine was fun. Living here in North Florida allows us to do things like this, we wouldn't have been able to do as easily in Tampa and I'm looking forward to the new adventures that await us.
